Laguna Torre Hike
Description
Experience the essence of the National Capital of Trekking with an exciting hike to the stunning Laguna Torre starting from El Chaltén. This adventure combines the thrill of physical activity with breathtaking vistas as you traverse impressive glaciers and scenic mountain trails.
Hike to Laguna Torre
El Chaltén is renowned as Argentina's National Capital of Trekking, and you'll understand why as we gather at Avenida San Martín, 631, to embark on our 5.5-mile trekking path towards the enchanting Laguna Torre.
The journey begins as we pass through a stretch of Antarctic beech forest, gradually ascending until we reach the viewpoint of the Margarita Waterfall. This vantage point offers captivating perspectives of the canyon formed by the Fitz Roy River, winding through the mountains.
Continuing our ascent, we will head towards another viewpoint that grants sweeping views of the distinguished Cerro Torre. As the second-highest peak in the Glaciers National Park, this majestic peak rises to just over 10,000 feet, only surpassed by Mount Fitz Roy. Here, we will pause to catch our breath and savor the stunning mountain and glacier scenery that envelops us.
Our efforts will bring us to Laguna Torre after a delightful two-hour trek, where you might even spot local avian species, including the Magellanic woodpecker. Upon reaching the lake, you'll be greeted by the breathtaking sight of ice tongues extending into the frigid waters. You will have ample time to capture the beauty around you through photographs.
Following a rejuvenating picnic by the lake, we will make our way back to where we began. The entire excursion will conclude 7 to 8 hours after we set off, depending on the pace of our group.
