Activity details

At the scheduled time, you have the option to be picked up from your hotel or to meet us directly at pier 8 of the Funchal Marina. Here, we'll embark on the schooner destined for the Desertas Islands. This group consists of three main islands: Bugio, Deserta Grande, and Chão Island, which collectively serve as a vital reserve for Madeira's subtropical vegetation and marine life. Expect to encounter vibrant rock formations, towering cliffs, and pristine beach waters as we explore these stunning islands.

As we navigate through the Atlantic Ocean aboard the schooner, relish the tranquil waters while enjoying a beautiful view of Madeira's silhouette fading into the distance. Onboard, a sumptuous hot meal will be served to replenish our energy in preparation for our exploration of the main island.

Upon our arrival at Deserta Grande, we will delve into the ancient volcanic structures that define the island's strikingly rugged terrain. The island is renowned as a haven for maritime birds, and it is home to several breeds of monk seals. With any luck, we may have a chance to see these remarkable creatures!

Throughout the journey, take advantage of the opportunity to swim in the inviting waters, and if conditions permit, experience snorkelling to uncover the rich marine biodiversity beneath the surface.

After exploring the beaches and cliffs of Deserta Grande, we'll return to the schooner and chart our course back to Funchal, wrapping up this enriching 8.5-hour adventure at our original departure point.

Hotel Pickup

The excursion includes hotel pickup from accommodations situated in the Caniço and Garajau regions. We also provide pickup from Calheta and Ponta do Sol for an additional 11EUR fee, payable in cash on the day of the tour.

If you opt out of the hotel pickup, we will meet at Pier 8 in Funchal Marina.
