Connemara Tour
Description
Charming settlements, ancient sites, and stunning natural vistas await you on this Connemara and Wild Atlantic Way tour departing from Galway. Experience the captivating allure of Ireland’s western coast.
Tour Overview
We will gather at the scheduled time at the entrance of Kinlay Hostel in Galway, where we will board a bus and embark on our journey along the Wild Atlantic Way. Prepare to be enchanted by the stunning landscapes throughout Ireland!
As we head west through Galway Bay, the charming Irish towns of Barna, Furbo, Spiddal, and Inverin will unfold before you. Adorned with thatched roofs and traditional stone walls, these villages are framed by majestic mountains, tranquil rivers, and serene lakes, offering a picturesque view of the Connemara area.
Next on our itinerary is a hidden treasure of Connemara, known as Bothar na Scragoige. After soaking in the unspoiled beauty of this bog region, we’ll make a quick stop in the charming coastal village of Roundstone and nearby Dog's Bay Beach.
The following stop is at Derrygimlagh Bog, a secluded site historically significant as the epicenter of communications and aviation in the early 20th century. We will share fascinating stories about its past!
Traveling along the Wild Atlantic Way, we will proceed to Clifden, recognized as the capital of Connemara, and ascend the renowned Sky Road. This winding route offers unparalleled panoramic views of the ocean from its scenic viewpoints.
For the next three hours, you have the option to customize your experience. You may choose to explore the Connemara National Park, a beloved natural sanctuary in western Ireland, or opt to visit the exterior of Kylemore Abbey. Interestingly, this grand estate was commissioned by politician Mitchell Henry as a wedding present for his spouse, Margaret.
Upon regrouping, we will travel through the majestic Twelve Bens and Maumturk mountains as well as the Inagh Valley. Our journey will also feature a sighting of the Connemara Giant and end with a visit to the iconic Quiet Man Bridge, marking our final stop.
Ultimately, this 9-hour adventure will conclude as we return to our initial meeting point in Galway.
