Description

Experience the untamed beauty of the Amazon rainforest in Peru on this journey to Pacaya Samiria National Park, a refuge teeming with a wide array of wildlife, including birds, mammals, and aquatic life.

Day Trip Overview

At the designated time, we will collect you from your accommodation in central Iquitos before embarking on a bus ride to Nauta, a quaint town located in the Loreto province.

Following a two-hour journey, we will disembark to explore Nauta, situated in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Here, we will visit the central square and stroll through nearby streets rich in cultural significance and tradition.

At approximately 8 am, our next stop will be the port, where we will board a boat for an excursion along two prominent rivers: the Marañón River and the Ucayali River. These rivers are known to be the birthplace of the Amazon River.

As we enjoy this scenic journey, there’s a chance to spot a sloth nestled in the towering rainforest trees or a vibrant bird soaring above the Amazon. With a bit of luck, we might even catch sight of gray and pink dolphins swimming in the waters.

We’ll reach land and proceed to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve to embark on a hiking adventure. This protected area spans over 20,000 square kilometers, ranking as the fourth largest in South America. Within its boundaries lie about 208 villages from 56 indigenous communities that rely on the natural resources available.

During the rainy season, we may encounter various species such as lizards, taricayas, and charapas. In the warmer months, expect to see birds, monkeys, and amphibians thriving in their natural surroundings. We will also marvel at the colossal trees that form a lush canopy over the reserve.

After exploring the stunning landscapes of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, we will return to the boat. If hunger strikes, we will enjoy a satisfying meal on board, featuring a regional specialty known as “Juane.” This unique dish contains a blend of chicken, egg, olives, and seasoned rice, all wrapped in a green bijao leaf. A selection of salads, fruits, and mineral water will complement the meal.

Once we've refueled and soaked in the surrounding scenery, we will engage in a delightful activity: traditional fishing. You will learn the local methods employed to catch piranhas and other fish found in the reserve's blackwater lagoons.

Finally, we will make our way back to the dock to catch the bus returning to Iquitos. After experiencing this 13 to 14-hour adventure, we will drop you at your hotel.
