La Paz Food Tour
Description
Salteñas, tumbo juice, and relleno de papa… In this culinary exploration of La Paz, we invite you to indulge in a variety of Bolivian dishes that will leave a lasting impression on your taste buds.
Tour Overview
What defines the flavors of Bolivia? To uncover this, we will gather at Emilio Villanueva Square, situated just in front of the Municipal Palace, where our gastronomic journey in La Paz will commence.
This walking experience will kick off as we explore numerous food stalls surrounding the square, getting acquainted with the key ingredients and staples prevalent in Bolivian cuisine. Following our initial insights, we will transition from learning to tasting with our first delight: salteñas. These quintessential empanadas are typically filled with meat, but vegetarian options are also available.
After savoring salteñas, we will make our way to a vendor featuring relleno de papa, which are tempting potato balls stuffed with seasoned meat. Their deliciousness is sure to tantalize your senses! Before we move on, we will chat about the popular Netflix series Street Food, which highlights episodes focused on La Paz.
Our next destination is a local vendor renowned for its tumbo juice, derived from a native Andean fruit that enjoys great popularity in the region. Post-refreshment, we will take the cable car to the El Alto area, where a delightful bowl of noodle soup enriched with peanuts, beef, and egg awaits.
Continuing our journey, we will explore a market in El Alto, examining its diverse stalls before returning to Plaza Sucre, a famous square in La Paz known for its proximity to the historic San Pedro prison.
We will discuss the background of this infamous penitentiary, and to ensure the tour ends on a sweet note, we will conclude our 2.5-hour gastronomic tour in a stall at Plaza Sucre, where we will relish its renowned cinnamon ice cream.
