Marseille Free Tour
Description
Our free tour of Marseille provides a perfect introduction to this significant French port city. Explore its ancient Greek and Muslim heritage with this engaging experience. Best of all, it's free!
Description
The tour commences at the enchanting old port, the historic 'birthplace' of Marseille. Here, we'll delve into the stories behind this 2,600-year-old city!
Our first stop is Le Panier, the oldest quarter in France, where we will stroll past various iconic monuments. Next, we will visit the Hotel Dieu, a historically rich building that played a key role during the Marseille Provence 2013 cultural events when Marseille was celebrated as the European Capital of Culture.
Afterward, we will ascend the "Accoules climb" to reach the Place des Moulins. This beautiful historic square, surrounded by townhouses and trees, offers a tranquil environment. We will continue our journey through the Panier, concluding the tour near the Mucem Museum. This striking building, dedicated to the Museum of the Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean, features modern architecture that contrasts with the historic Fort St. Jean, constructed in 1660 by Louis XIV. The fort is connected to the museum by a remarkable 115-meter-long (337 ft) bridge, which houses some exhibitions of the museum.
Our visit will conclude at 1 pm next to Fort St. Jean.
