Mombasa Food Tour
Description
Experience the rich tapestry of African, Arab, and Indian culinary culture on a gastronomic journey through the Old Town of Mombasa, where you will savor street delicacies, fresh seafood, and traditional confections.
Tour Overview
At the appointed hour, we will gather in front of Fort Jesus to embark on this culinary exploration of Mombasa. Are you ready to uncover the tastes of Kenya's coastline? The region's gastronomy is a vibrant mix influenced by years of cultural interactions among Africa, the Arab world, and Indian heritage.
As we navigate the winding alleys of the Old Town, you will indulge in a variety of dishes, from delightful street snacks to the freshest seafood and classic sweets. Our adventure begins with tasty bites of mahambri (fried sweet bread), viazi karai (spiced potatoes), complemented by refreshing ginger tea.
Our next stop will be a local street vendor where we can sample golden, crispy samosas, succulent mishkaki (meat skewers), and the renowned urojo soup, crafted with mango, turmeric, potatoes, and a hint of lemon.
We will then visit the vibrant fish market of Mombasa, observing locals as they select the finest catches of the day. This stop provides an ideal opportunity to enjoy some freshly prepared seafood.
To refresh ourselves, we will pause at a beverage stall for madafu (coconut water) served directly from the shell. We will wrap up our culinary experience on a sweet note, savoring swahili delicacies like halwa or coconut kashata, paired with a cup of kahawa tungu, the beloved local coffee.
At the conclusion of our tour, we'll part ways after a fulfilling 4-hour experience.
