Description

Personalized Private Tours
At the time of booking, you can select between two distinct paths, depending on the area of Novi Sad you wish to experience: the historic downtown or the Petrovaradin Fortress. Both options last for 1.5 hours and are led by an English-speaking guide, but they differ in starting locations and scheduling based on your selected date.
Historic Downtown Journey
We will gather at the square in front of Novi Sad City Hall to commence our private tour through the lively streets of the city’s historic district.
Our first stop will be the Name of Mary Church, renowned as a Neo-Gothic architectural gem. Constructed in 1892, it serves as the principal Catholic site of worship in Novi Sad. The church's facade rises to an impressive height of 236 feet (72 meters), highlighted by its slender clock tower and magnificent bell tower.
Next, we will visit the Serbian National Theatre, the oldest theatre in the country, established in 1861 by notable figures from the Serbian reading group during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Our journey continues to Zmaj Jovina Street, a hub filled with cafés, eateries, bakeries, and traditional shops.
As we stroll through Danube Park, the most verdant area of the city, we will arrive at the Bishop's Palace and the Museum of Vojvodina. This art museum boasts a collection of over 400,000 artworks and a library containing more than 50,000 volumes. We will also pass by the Monument to the Victims of the Raid, from which you can view the impressive Petrovaradin Fortress.
After 1.5 hours, we will conclude our tour at the banks of the Danube, beside the Spomenik žrtvama racije, commemorating the victims of the raid in Novi Sad.
Petrovaradin Fortress Exploration
We'll meet at Kej žrtava Racije Street before heading toward the Petrovaradin Fortress, the most significant monument in Novi Sad.
Perched on the right bank of the Danube River, this fortress has origins that trace back to the Copper Age. In the 17th century, it stood as Europe's largest fortress and was a key stronghold within the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the Balkan region.
As we tour, you'll discover that this fortress is a rare example of military architecture from its era, maintaining remarkable integrity despite experiencing damage during both World Wars.
Legend has it that a secret tunnel burrows beneath the riverbed, linking the fortress to the opposite bank of the Danube. This passage was supposedly used by the last Austro-Hungarian soldier and his fiancée in 1913. You will uncover this and various other intriguing anecdotes during the tour!
After 1.5 hours, we will return to our starting point to wrap up the tour.
