Ribeira Grande Hike

Embark on a journey through the island of Santiago, immersing yourself in its deep-rooted history on this hiking path along Ribeira Grande. Traverse distinctive landscapes and encounter ancient trees leading you to Cidade Velha, a foundational site of this island nation.

Hike Overview

We will start this thrilling experience by picking you up from your accommodation in Praia at the arranged time. A short drive of approximately 20 minutes will take us to the starting point in Ribeira Grande, where we will unveil a breathtaking natural environment. Ensure your footwear is secure; the hike is about to commence!

This 2.48-mile (4-kilometer) trek will guide us along paths flanked by sugarcane fields, banana groves, mango trees, coconut palms, and papaya plants. As we proceed, we will share insights into how locals produce and refine grogue, the beloved national drink of Cape Verde.

Our expedition will bring us to a magnificent baobab tree aged over 400 years, a remarkable natural monument that symbolizes the island's heritage. Keep an eye out for grey-headed kingfishers, the national bird, as we enjoy the surrounding nature. Remember to grab your camera to capture these wonderful moments!

The hike, lasting approximately 2 hours, will conclude at Cidade Velha, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a historical cornerstone of the Cape Verdean people.

Finally, we will make our way back to Praia, where we will bid farewell at your hotel around 4 hours post-pickup.
