Your journey will commence with the inspiring tale of Manuela Sáenz, a courageous supporter of Simón Bolívar, as we stroll through this historic 16th-century park, noted as the oldest in Quito. The adventure will include stops at key sites such as the Plaza Grande square and the stunning Basilica of the National Vow, recognized as the tallest neo-Gothic church in Latin America.
As we wander through the old town, we will pass by the elegant house of Manuela Cañizares, a vital figure in Ecuador's fight for independence. Our exploration will also include the María Augusta Urrutia House Museum, where the values of solidarity and empathy instilled by this Quito aristocrat are still respected today.
To connect with Ecuador's distinctive music, we will visit the Museo del Pasillo, which celebrates the legacy of Carlota Jaramillo, fondly referred to as the "queen of the national song." We will then head to the Museo del Carmen Alto to uncover the history of Marianita de Jesús, who is cherished as Quito’s only saint.
Our exploration will draw us back to the remarkable contributions of these great women, culminating in a visit to Manuela Sáenz's house. Here, we will reflect on her enduring feminist legacy and her significant contributions to advocating for women's rights.
