Embark on an enriching journey to the Gotsezhy Indigenous Refuge with our excursion from Santa Marta. This experience provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of the Wiwa Indigenous community, nestled within a stunning natural landscape and gain insights into their cultural practices.

Description

Your adventure begins at 7 am when we will collect you from your hotel. After a brief introduction, we’ll board our jeep for a thrilling ride to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Excitement awaits!

Our route will take us to the San Martín trail, where the real exploration begins with a hike to the Gotsezhy Refuge. Before delving into our trek, we will enjoy a light snack in the rural community of San Martín, allowing us to refuel for the journey ahead as we take in the area's breathtaking landscapes.

Upon completing an hour’s drive, we will arrive at Gotsezhy village around 10 am. Here, we will immerse ourselves in the traditions of the Wiwa Indigenous community, delving into their sustainable lifestyle and the intricate art of textile weaving.

Following this, we will make our way to a spiritual site significant to the community. A special meeting with the Mamo, the village's highest authority, is scheduled for 12 noon, offering insights into their way of life.

As the clock strikes 12:30 pm, we’ll be treated to a traditional lunch prepared by the Wiwa, featuring soup, a main course, juice, and fruit. After savoring these authentic dishes, we will take a 20-minute walk to the El Encanto natural pool. This inviting spot is revered for its refreshing waters, said to hold cleansing properties.

After a remarkable day at the Gotsezhy Indigenous Refuge, we will depart at 3 pm to return to Santa Marta.

2-Day Trip

For those looking to extend the adventure, our 2-day itinerary at the Gotsezhy Indigenous Refuge is an excellent option. On the first day, you will engage in the same experiences as outlined above, but with an additional 2 hours of leisure at the El Encanto natural pool.

Later, around 5 pm, we will head back to the Gotsezhy Refuge to enjoy a delightful dinner while being entertained by some stunning traditional dances.

Wake up to a new day! On the second day, you'll receive a snack and explore the village, where an exhibition of traditional crafts awaits. We’ll partake in another lovely lunch at 12 noon, and at 2 pm we’ll follow the trail back to Guachaca, where our transport will be on hand to take you back to Santa Marta.

You can expect to arrive at your hotel around 5 pm. We look forward to seeing you again!
