3-Day Adventure in Cotahuasi Canyon

Day 1

Our exciting adventure begins! We will meet you at your accommodation at 5:30 am, setting off towards the Majes Valley, located two hours from Arequipa. During our transit, there will be a delightful breakfast featuring coffee, juice, bread, eggs, butter, and jam.

This valley houses one of the region's notable attractions, the Querulpa Jurassic Park, where you can view actual dinosaur footprints. After exploring the park, we will proceed to Toro Muerto, renowned for its petroglyphs, exemplifying some of the most significant rock art in the area.

Our next stop will be in Chuquibamba for lunch, which will feature a hearty meat stew, pasta, and soup. Post-lunch, prepare for a 4-hour ascent to the mountain pass sitting between the Coropuna and Solimana Volcanoes. We will then descend into the Cotahuasi Canyon, often referred to as the Canyon of Wonders. Did you know that it ranks among the deepest canyons globally?

After taking in the breathtaking sights of this natural marvel, we will enjoy dinner in a local village featuring soup, rice with vegetables, and a hot drink. You'll have the opportunity to stay overnight with a welcoming local family.

Day 2

Day two will commence as we travel to Taurisma. We will dedicate 30 minutes to uncovering the beauty of this small village, exploring its broom bush forests, hanging bridges, and archaeological sites. Following this, we will make our way to Tomepampa for a 3-hour hike through charming Andean villages such as Huaynacotas. Our adventure leads us to the famous Luicho Thermal Baths, where you'll have a relaxing 30 minutes to soak in the therapeutic waters—an ideal way to unwind after a hike!

Finally, we will return to Cotahuasi for a restful overnight stay at our accommodation.

Day 3

On our final day, our expedition begins with a hike along the serene banks of the Cotahuasi River. We will follow this winding river until we reach the stunning Sipia Waterfall, where it narrows to just 16 feet (5 meters) and cascades down from a height of 491 feet (150 meters). We'll spend an hour absorbing the beauty of this natural spectacle and exploring the nearby area. At the conclusion of our trail, we will visit the Cunyac Bridge, a popular spot for bungee jumping enthusiasts.

Upon arrival, a bus will be ready to transport us back to Cotahuasi. We'll enjoy lunch before returning to your hotel in Arequipa, where we're expected to arrive by 8 pm.
