Sightseeing Bus to Cape Sounion
Description
Your journey to Cape Sounion will take you to a site steeped in Greek mythology, equipped with an audio guide in English to enrich your experience.
Activity Overview
We'll convene at the designated location in Athens, starting our venture towards Cape Sounion. During this journey, listen to an audio guide brimming with fascinating insights regarding this iconic destination in the Attica region.
Cape Sounion holds significant value in Greek heritage. It is here where, according to mythology, Aegeus took his own life, mistakenly believing his son Theseus had perished. This tale is the origin of the name Aegean Sea.
Upon arrival, you'll have the opportunity to explore the renowned Temple of Poseidon at your leisure, a remarkable structure dating back to the 5th century B.C. You will marvel at the towering columns, each reaching over 6 meters (20 feet) in height. Interestingly, these columns were designed to withstand air erosion. A closer look may reveal an engraving by Lord Byron, the celebrated English poet.
As the sun sets, you will have the chance to relax at Cape Sounion and witness one of the most breathtaking sunsets in Greece.
We will then make our way back to the bus and return to Athens, with an estimated arrival time of 4 hours after departure.
