Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Tour
Description
An unmissable sight in Berlin, bringing you face to face with the realities of the Nazi regime.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the meeting point in central Berlin. From there, we'll head to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, built in 1936 and one of the first camps under the Nazi regime. This site became the 'model camp' for others. Learn about the atrocities committed from its construction until its closure in 1950.
As both a Nazi and Soviet NKVD camp, 30,000 prisoners died here, and it served as a blueprint for extermination and concentration camps, where grave crimes against humanity occurred.
While it's possible to visit the camp independently, the guide will provide valuable explanations about the site's history and significance. For instance, the central courtyard may appear unremarkable, but understanding that prisoners marched up to 90 km (55.9 miles) per day in trial military boots adds context. The guide will reveal the history of Sachsenhausen and the horrors that took place.
You will also visit the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum, dedicated to memorializing the events that occurred here.
The activity will conclude with a return to Berlin after approximately 5.5 to 6 hours.
