Discover the breathtaking Sacred Valley with this four-day trek that leads to Machu Picchu via the Inca Quarry, an ancient route used by the Incas to transport stone blocks to Ollantaytambo.
Machu Picchu 4 Day Trek
Day 1: Cusco - Soqma - Korimarca
Our adventure begins with a pickup at your hotel or the airport in Cusco at 7 AM, setting the stage for an unforgettable four-day journey to Machu Picchu through the Inca Quarry.
We will first stop at the Ñaupa Church, a site rich in history featuring intricately carved stones. Following this, we’ll embark on a two-hour upward trek to the village of Soqma, where a hearty lunch awaits to replenish our energy.
After our meal, we ascend towards the stunning Perolniyoc waterfalls, known for their impressive 300-meter drop. Our journey continues to the archaeological site of Rayanpata, and we will set up camp near the village of Korimarca, perched at over 3600 meters.
Day 2: Korimarca - Inti Punku - Choquetacarpo
The second day commences with a revitalizing breakfast as we continue our trek through the majestic peaks of the Sacred Valley. A four-hour climb will lead us to the Charkahuaylla pass, standing tall at 4450 meters, where we’ll enjoy lunch while observing a lagoon frequented by huallatas, the native birds of the region.
Following lunch, we will proceed to the Buena Negra pass, providing us with spectacular views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will descend for an hour until we reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate that gazes upon Mount Veronica. There, we will camp for the night in close proximity to Choquetacarpo.
Day 3: Choquetacarpo - Cachiccata - Aguas Calientes
We begin the day with magnificent views of the Sacred Valley's mountain ranges. After breakfast, we will descend for an hour to the Cachiccata quarries, where the Incas mined porphyry, an essential building material for their structures. We will also visit an ancient Inca cemetery featuring enigmatic constructions known as chullpas.
Lunch will be hosted in Cachiccata, where we will delve into the local culinary practices, including the preparation of pachamanca and cuy, traditional Peruvian dishes.
The trek continues along the Inca quarry path, used in pre-Columbian times for transporting stone blocks to Ollantaytambo. We will stroll through this historical Inca city, observing its ancient homes where inhabitants still reside. In Ollantaytambo, we’ll board a panoramic train headed to Aguas Calientes, our resting place for the night.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Cusco
The final day kicks off with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a bus ride to the iconic ruins of Machu Picchu. Here, a short hike will take us into the heart of the Inca citadel. You’ll have approximately three hours of free time to explore the temples, palaces, and stone altars at your own pace. Additionally, optional hikes to either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain can be arranged.
Upon completing our explorations, we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Later, we will board the scenic Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo, where a bus will be ready to transport us back to Cusco, with an estimated arrival time of 7:30 PM.
