Andes High Mountain Small Group Day Trip
Description
Join us on this Andes day excursion, where you will discover the breathtaking landscapes of the region in a small group of a maximum of 12 participants. Along the way, we will also approach the Chilean border. Are you prepared for the adventure?
Trip Overview
If you're eager to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Andes, we will begin by picking you up from your lodging in Mendoza at the pre-arranged time. Departing from the city, we will journey westward for approximately 74 mi (120 km) towards the stunning Mendoza River, where the picturesque views will enchant you right from the start!
Our first stop will be the remarkable Dique de Potrerillos, a prime location for spotting condors soaring overhead. As we proceed, we will navigate towards Uspallata, a picturesque valley home to a Huarpe community, situated at an elevation of 6,561 ft (2,000 m). After a brief break, we will continue for about 43 mi (70 km) to reach Los Penitentes, a site of a historic ski resort.
Just a short distance of 3.19 mi (5 km) leads us to the captivating Puente del Inca, a natural golden-hued arch towering at 8,923 ft (2,720 m), holding the waters of the Las Cuevas River. Nearby, you will find the solemn Cementerio de los Andinistas, a tribute to climbers who lost their lives on Aconcagua expeditions.
Subsequently, from a scenic viewpoint, we will gaze upon the grandeur of Aconcagua, revered as the "Roof of America" at 22,834 ft (6,960 m). Between November and April, you can also opt to visit the Aconcagua Provincial Park and enjoy a leisurely stroll towards the laguna de los Horcones at your own pace.
Our next destination is Las Cuevas, a village perched at 10,498 ft (3,200 m) close to the Chilean border. Here, you will have an hour of free time to enjoy a meal at one of the local restaurants.
For those traveling between January and March, there is an opportunity to ascend to Christ the Redeemer, which stands tall at 13,779 ft (4,200 m), the highest monument in the Andes. Please be aware that this ascent will only be available if the trail conditions permit. In the absence of accessible trails, our itinerary will continue without this stop.
In conclusion, we will regroup to embark on our return journey, pausing in Uspallata for one final break before arriving back in Mendoza. After an enriching 11-hour experience, we will drop you off at your hotel.
