Exclusive Tour of Besalú
Our adventure commences at 11 am at the Romanesque bridge of Besalú, launching into our private exploration of this charming destination in Girona. Here, we will delve into the historical significance of Besalú and the surrounding La Garrocha region, a renowned area in the northeastern part of Catalonia noted for its natural park.
As we traverse the 11th-century monumental Romanesque bridge, we will step into the picturesque historic center of Besalú, an excellent representation of cultural heritage preservation. The town’s streets maintain their medieval configuration, creating a mesmerizing snapshot of history.
During our stroll, we will explore the local shops and outdoor markets, before descending to the riverbank to explore the Jewish Quarter. Here, notable sites include the Micvé, a unique ritual bath on the peninsula, alongside the ruins of the synagogue and the Jewish school.
We will then proceed to the Town Hall Square, where you can discover local delicacies such as sausages, cheeses, and the much-loved ratafía, a herb-infused liqueur.
Next, we will visit the Plaza de San Pedro, home to its Romanesque church and the church of San Vicente. An interesting fact: this temple once housed a fragment of the Vera Cruz, believed to be from the site of Christ's crucifixion.
To conclude our tour, we will ascend to a viewpoint offering a stunning panoramic perspective of Besalú. Our journey wraps up in approximately 2 hours at this memorable location.
