Details of the Tour
This engaging visit, lasting about 30 minutes, culminates in the revelation of a centuries-old secret of the winery that has been kept under wraps. Prepare to be intrigued!
The idyllic village of San Martín del Castañar is a hidden treasure within the Sierra de Francia, situated in the southern region of Salamanca province and inhabited by fewer than 300 people. Despite its quaint size, this village offers an extraordinary discovery. Our journey kicks off at Number 2 Callejina, known for its esteemed Medieval Cellar.
What tales does this ancient site have to tell? How many years of history does it encompass? Together, we will explore these questions during our tour of the winery, investigating the art of producing wines crafted from the distinctive rufete grape. Throughout the tour, we will encounter traditional farming implements and relics that highlight the area's abundant viticultural culture.
After delving into the history of the winery, enjoy a tasting session featuring two wines made from rufete grapes, both of which possess the distinguished PDO Sierra de Salamanca certification. Guests will sample a young wine and a crianza, paired with delectable tapas such as acorn-fed Iberian salami, chorizo, seasonal olives, and hearty village bread. For those requiring gluten-free options, snacks are available as well. Visitors under 18 will be served a tasting of one red and one white grape must.
For those who prefer plant-based options, a vegetarian selection is offered, which includes semi-cured artisan goat cheeses alongside rustic bread.
As we wrap up our 30-minute exploration, prepare to discover a long-guarded secret hidden within the winery’s heritage—an astonishing surprise that promises to leave you mesmerized!
