Starting at 8:00 am, a minibus will collect you from your hotel in Machala and set off towards the east, headed for Portovelo. Upon arriving in this municipality within the province of El Oro, we will explore the Magnet Turner Mineralogical Museum, where you'll gain insights into the diverse stones and minerals abundant in this region of Ecuador.

The journey continues to Zaruma, recognized as one of the nation's oldest cities. We will delve into its historic center, uncovering the city's rich traditions and its spiritual significance. As we navigate the streets, we will encounter landmarks such as the Virgen del Carmen church, Plaza de la Independencia, and the vibrant wooden houses that characterize Zaruma.

Did you know an extensive network of tunnels lies beneath the city? Our next destination will be the renowned Zaruma mines. Here, we will enter the El Sexmo mine to gain a firsthand look at the lives of workers within its subterranean corridors and learn about the key minerals that are extracted.

As we tour the mine, you’ll observe the mining carts, safety equipment, and various artifacts emblematic of this significant industry that has shaped the history of Zaruma.

After exploring the mine, we will return to the minibus to head back to Machala, expecting to arrive by 2:00 pm.
