Dresden Free Walking Tour
Description
Explore the historic gem of European Baroque through a complimentary walking tour of Dresden, where you will traverse the heart of a city once ravaged by the Second World War.
Complimentary Walking Tour Dresden
Your journey begins at Theaterplatz, a pivotal square in the capital of Saxony, under the watchful gaze of King John I of Saxony. Here, our free tour convenes just below the statue, right in front of the illustrious Semperoper opera house.
In this location, we will delve into the legacy of the Wettin dynasty, whose influence shaped the culture, architecture, and artistry of Dresden. As we appreciate the splendid facade of the opera house, we will also reflect on its restoration following the destruction of World War II.
Next, we will proceed to the renowned Zwinger Palace, celebrated globally as an extraordinary Baroque jewel. This structure, complimented by enchanting fountains and historic royal gatherings, was constructed at the site of a former fortress. Following this, we will visit Dresden Palace, where the priceless relics of the Saxon monarchy are displayed.
The exploration will take us through the historic center towards the Holy Trinity Cathedral, known as Hofkirche, the largest ecclesiastical structure in Saxony, leading us to a fascinating street featuring the Fürstenzug. This special mural is recognized as the longest tiled mural in the world.
As our tour draws to a close, we will find ourselves in front of the iconic Church of Our Lady, or Frauenkirche, a striking representation of the city's rebirth after the devastation of the Great War.
