Merzouga Desert 2-Day Trip
Description
Experience a memorable night in a traditional haima set amidst the desert on this two-day excursion to the Merzouga Desert, culminating in Marrakech.
Merzouga Desert 2-Day Excursion
Day 1: Fez - Ifrane - Azrou - Erfoud - Merzouga
We will commence our adventure in Fez, either by meeting you there or picking you up from your hotel. Departing from the lively streets, we will embark on a journey into the heart of Morocco. Our route will take us across the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through picturesque villages such as Ifrane, known as the "Moroccan Switzerland" for its charming European-style architecture, and Azrou, celebrated as one of the most significant Amazigh towns in the nation.
Continuing onward, we will traverse the Ziz Valley and the Ziz Gorges before arriving at Erfoud, where the real desert journey to Merzouga will begin.
As the day transitions into evening, we'll mount our camels for a ride to our camp. Upon arrival, guests can savor a traditional dinner, enjoyed under the stars, immersed in the tranquil beauty of the Moroccan desert night.
Day 2: Merzouga - Rissani - Alnif - Tizi N'Tfrkhin - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
Before dawn breaks, we will rise early to witness the stunning sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Following this breathtaking experience, we'll return to our camels for a ride back to a hotel, where you'll have the chance to enjoy breakfast and a shower (depending on your selected camp, these amenities may be available before the camel trek).
Exiting the desert, our path to Marrakech will take us through the beautiful palm grove of Tafilalet and the historic village of Rissani, known as the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, which continues to lead Morocco today.
As we pass through areas of acacia plateaus and rocky deserts, we will arrive at Alnif, where we will journey through the Anti Atlas Mountains and Tizi N'Tfrkhin, while also glimpsing the village of Tinghir and the scenic Dades Valley.
Around noon, we will make a stop in Klaat M'Gouna, where you can unwind, stretch after the drive, and enjoy a meal of traditional Moroccan cuisine to regain your energy.
Before reaching Marrakech, we will take in the sights of two iconic landmarks in Morocco: the stunning town of Ouarzazate and the majestic High Atlas Mountains.
We expect to arrive in Marrakech around 8:30 pm, concluding this remarkable journey through the Moroccan desert.
