Your journey begins with a prompt pickup from your Georgetown hotel, setting the stage for an enlightening exploration of a crucial era in Colonial Guyana's past. If you're intrigued by the British Guiana 1-cent Magenta, you're in for a real surprise!
Before our deep dive into history, we'll make a stop at the Georgetown National Park, home to the fascinating manatees, iconic residents of the region that even adorned Guyana's stamps back in 1993!
Then, we will immerse ourselves in the remarkable story of the British Guyana 1-cent Magenta, recognized as the rarest and most sought-after postage stamp globally. Our exploration will take us to the Walter Rodney archives, where an original edition of the Royal Gazette newspaper awaits, the very publication that first featured this historic stamp.
Next, we will stop at the Guyana National Museum, a site of great significance as it marks the original production location of the British Guyana 1-cent Magenta stamp. Here, you will uncover its historical context, its meaning during its time, and enjoy a thorough examination of its unique aspects!
As we move towards the latter part of our adventure, we will visit a philatelic shop located within the Georgetown Post Office. This is the perfect opportunity for stamp enthusiasts to acquire some of Guyana’s most captivating stamps.
We will then continue our journey, highlighting Guyana's unique wildlife. Our following destination will be a turtle conservation center, where you'll encounter the striking giant yellow-legged and red-legged turtles. After this memorable visit, we will proceed to the Secret Garden Restaurant, where you will indulge in a traditional British meal with a Guyanese flair, perfectly capping off our outing!
