Garrocha Day Trip
Description
Embark on a journey into the past and explore the scenic medieval villages of the Girona region with this Garrocha Day Trip. The itinerary includes captivating sites such as Besalú, Castellfollit de la Roca, and Lake Bañolas.
Garrocha Day Trip
The adventure begins at 9 am in Plaza Sant Feliu de Gerona, where we'll depart towards Besalú, situated approximately 35 minutes away.
Upon arrival, we will dedicate two hours to uncovering the charming medieval village, roaming its cobbled lanes while a knowledgeable guide shares the fascinating history of this ancient settlement.
Next, we will venture into the Garrocha Natural Park, nestled in the pre-Pyrenees region. This area is home to over 40 volcanoes, and one of the highlights will be visiting a medieval chapel located within the crater of one of these geological wonders.
As we approach the Santa Margarida volcano, we'll pause at Castellfollit de la Roca, where remarkable houses cling to a towering basalt column. From this vantage point, we will enjoy stunning views overlooking the River Fluvià below.
Following this visual feast, we will head to a local dining venue, offering you one and a half hours of leisure time to savor lunch at your own pace.
Our journey will proceed through La Garrocha, concluding our visit in the village of Santa Pau, positioned in the heart of the region. Here, we will explore the iconic Santa Maria church and the lovely Castle, both notable examples of medieval architecture.
To wrap up our day, we’ll arrive at Lake Bañolas, where a tranquil walk along the lakeside will allow us to appreciate the breathtaking landscape while learning more about the area. We anticipate returning to Girona by 5 pm.
