Mexican Independence Tour of Guanajuato
Description
Step into the past and explore the pivotal moments of Mexican Independence by visiting the significant towns of Guanajuato: Dolores Hidalgo, Atotonilco, and San Miguel de Allende.
Description
Your journey begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Guanajuato at the scheduled time, setting the stage for an insightful excursion through the history of the Mexican Revolution that paved the way for the country’s freedom.
The first stop will be the Conservas Santa Rosa store, where you can sample delightful local sweets sourced from the Guanajuato mountains. Following this, we will explore the former city prison and pay our respects at the mausoleum of famed singer José Alfredo Jiménez.
Our next destination is Dolores Hidalgo, the birthplace of the revolutionary movement initiated by priest Miguel Hidalgo Costilla, often referred to as the Father of the Nation. Here, we will visit the church where the historic Cry of Dolores reverberated in 1810, offering insights into the roots and significance of the independence struggle.
Continuing our adventure, we will arrive at Atotonilco and enter the magnificent Sanctuary of Jesus Nazareno, an exquisite baroque church adorned with historical murals by the artist Pocasangre. This location is significant, as it was here that Hidalgo carried the banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe, marking it as the first flag of the Insurgents.
If you're feeling hungry, we'll make a pause for lunch, allowing you time to enjoy a meal at your own pace. Our journey then continues as we tread the historic paths towards San Miguel de Allende.
As you explore this town, you'll become acquainted with General Ignacio Allende, one of the war's prominent figures who hailed from this area. We’ll allocate an hour for you to wander freely and soak in the local atmosphere. The day concludes with a drop-off in the heart of Guanajuato, near the Juarez Theater, approximately 8 hours after our departure.
