Description
Explore the finest preserved Arab baths across Europe with our guided tour of the Arab Baths and Villardompardo Palace. Experience the age-old washing rituals that characterized the Andalusian era.
Tour of the Arab Baths and Villardompardo Palace
The journey begins at the Cultural Center of the Arab Baths, where we will embark on our exploration of the Villardompardo Palace, a stunning Renaissance structure dating back to the 16th century, which houses the baths.
Our guided experience kicks off at the Palace, once the home of Fernando de Torres y Portugal, the First Count of Villardompardo and Viceroy of Peru. Nestled in a prime location within the historic center of Jaén, this building has undergone various ownership and functional changes throughout the centuries.
Within the palace, we will visit two notable museums. First, the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs, which showcases the traditional crafts that have faded away over time. Following this, we will head to the Naïf Art Museum, the only one of its kind in Spain.
Next, we will proceed to explore the largest Arab Baths in Europe, covering an impressive area of 450 square meters. Dating back to 1002, these baths exemplify the washing rituals and operational methods of the Muslim community. During our visit, we will access the four distinct rooms that constitute these historical Arab baths.
Concluding our tour, we will ascend to the Terrace-Viewpoint, where you can take in spectacular vistas of the city after an enriching hour and a half exploration.
