Description

Explore the somber history of World War II through a private day excursion to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp departing from Kraków.

Details of the Day Trip

While arranging your reservation, you'll have the option to select from the two private day tours available from Kraków:

Auschwitz Birkenau Day Excursion

Between 6 and 8 am, we will collect you from your Kraków hotel and head towards Auschwitz-Birkenau. After a journey of just over an hour, we will arrive at the largest Nazi extermination camp established during the Second World War. Recognized as a World Heritage Site since 1979, this location serves as a reminder of the Holocaust atrocities.

Your tour will commence in the prison blocks, where we will visit various exhibitions that detail the punishments suffered by prisoners for trivial infractions or for perceived disobedience of SS guards. Following this, we will proceed to one of the most harrowing sections of the site: the gas chambers and cremation area, where you will learn about the extreme cruelty of the regime and how propaganda spurred horrific acts of violence.

The exploration continues into the most recognized segment of this chilling location. Here, you will observe the train tracks that once facilitated the entry of countless individuals into the camp. Upon arrival, some were immediately chosen for execution or subjected to medical experiments. Amongst the victims were Jews, Romani people, Spanish Republicans, political dissidents, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

As we continue, you will notice the barracks, latrines, and the remains of four crematoria, which included gas chambers that were demolished in a futile attempt to erase the evidence of the atrocities from the Soviet forces. Concluding the visit, you’ll enjoy 45 minutes of free time for lunch before we return to Kraków, arriving back at your hotel after approximately six and a half hours.

Auschwitz Birkenau, Kraków Ghetto, and Schindler's Factory

If you choose this alternative, our day will begin similarly with a pickup from your hotel in Kraków. We will first visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp to delve into its somber history.

After our tour of the camp, we will take a moment at the Judenrampe. This area served as the last stop for many Jews arriving from various parts of Europe until 1944.

Around 1:30 pm, we will head back to Kraków and pause at a traditional Polish restaurant for you to enjoy lunch independently. Following this, at approximately 2:45 pm, a private English-speaking tour of the Kraków Ghetto will commence. This part of the city bears witness to the Nazi regime's separation and persecution of the Jewish population.

Subsequently, we will visit Oskar Schindler's Factory, where you'll explore this site independently, learning about how Schindler managed to save hundreds of Jews from near-certain death.

Finally, we will return you to your hotel in Kraków.

Note: This option is not available on Mondays, the first Tuesday of each month, or during public holidays.

Important information

Please be ready at the entrance of your hotel 10 minutes before the start of the tour.

The local tour company will email you to confirm your assigned timeslot. The timetable is flexible and depends on the availability of guides and tickets. The most frequent times are between 6 am and 8 am. Please note these hours are flexible.

Afternoon visit

If you would prefer to do the tour in the afternoon or at any other time, you can get in touch with the local tour company to discuss options. An afternoon timeslot is sometimes possible but is always subject to availability—the tour normally takes place in the morning.

Important

  • At the time of booking, you must have indicated your names as they appear on your ID cards. Otherwise, you may not be able to enter the place.
  • According to Auschwitz rules, please note that in case you need to make changes to your reservation (whether it is a change of date, time, or name change), only one change can be made per reservation. In the case of changing names, only a maximum of 10% of the names can be changed, that is, if there are 20 attendees, only 2 names can be changed.
  • In the option combining Auschwitz and Oskar Schindler's Factory, on the day of the activity, you'll have to pay the price of the tickets to the guide so that he can buy them.
  • Due to the large number of visitors, the schedule may be modified. It's important that you have your mobile phone fully operational in case of any changes of this kind.
  • The visit to the camp can only take place with qualified guides from the camp and not with external guides. The confirmation of the guide is only guaranteed 12-16 hours before the activity.
  • All operators require a minimum group size to be able to access the camp with a guide, so sometimes, if this is not reached, the activity may be cancelled or rescheduled.
  • We reserve tickets and secure a guide as soon as the minimum group size is met. However, for last-minute bookings, guide availability cannot be guaranteed, and the activity may be subject to cancellation.
  • However, if there is any change in the departure time of the excursion, we'll notify you at least 15-24 hours before the activity.

Changes to the Number of Participants

For group bookings of more than 10 people, you may only add up to 10% of the original group size after the reservation is confirmed. For example, if your reservation is for 6 people and you want to add 3 more, that’s fine. However, if your group is between 10 and 19 people, only one additional participant can be added. For groups of 20 to 29, only two extra people can be added.

Please note that canceling and attempting to rebook for a larger group does not guarantee availability. It is highly unlikely that Auschwitz will approve a new reservation for a larger number of participants on nearby dates.

Once a private tour with named tickets has been confirmed, the provider cannot change the time or cancel the tour.
