Lhasa Temples & Monasteries: 4-Day Exploration

Day 1

Your journey begins with a pickup at the Lhasa Airport or train station, followed by a transfer to your accommodation where you can unwind before embarking on your adventure in Lhasa, the largest city and capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Day 2

Kick off your morning with an early visit to the Potala Palace. Ascend nearly 400 steps to reach this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which served as the Dalai Lama's residence until 1959. The palace boasts over a thousand rooms, featuring chapels, sanctuaries, and libraries filled with ancient Buddhist texts, as well as striking stupas and murals.

Next, continue your guided exploration of Lhasa at the Jokhang Temple, a pivotal spiritual site in Tibet. Inside, admire the revered statue of a 12-year-old Buddha and other intriguing Buddhist relics. Afterward, wander the bustling Barkhor district, a vibrant area frequented by both pilgrims and locals.

To conclude your day, enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional local restaurant, immersing yourself in the essence of Tibetan culture.

Day 3

Having delved into the heart of the city, day three invites you to Dadong, a picturesque village located near Lhasa.

Dadong is celebrated for its exceptional preservation as a Tibetan settlement, embraced by stunning natural surroundings. Discover springs, ancient trails, and lush landscapes as you explore. A visit to the Nyimatang Monastery, which dates back to the 11th century, adds a historical touch to your experience.

Your adventure includes a meeting with a local family, where you'll enjoy a traditional meal, granting you further insight into the region's rich culture and culinary delights.

With fulfilled appetites, your journey proceeds to the Sera Monastery. Here, you'll be captivated by the lively debates among Buddhist monks, characterized by their distinctive claps, providing a remarkable experience.
