Day Trip to Malinalco
Description
Embark on an enriching journey from Mexico City to the picturesque town of Malinalco, where you will uncover the archaeological marvels that have put this destination on the map.
Description
Our adventure begins at Calle Florencia, 70 on the corner of Calle Liverpool, where we will depart at the scheduled time. We will navigate southwards, setting the stage for our memorable experience.
As we traverse through the vibrant greenery that envelops Malinalco, we will arrive at our first stop after a two-hour journey. Our exploration commences at Cuautinchán, renowned for its archaeological significance, situated atop the Cerro de los Idolos.
To reach this extraordinary site, a climb of 420 steps awaits us, but the effort is sure to be rewarding! Upon reaching the summit, we will have the opportunity to explore the famous temple of the Eagle Warriors, also known as Cuauhtinchan. This remarkable monolithic structure, carved from solid rock, once served as a stronghold for indigenous warriors.
After the invigorating ascent, you can unwind and refuel during a lunch break.
Our next destination is the Doctor Luis Mario Schneider University Museum, where we will delve into a diverse collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts and gain insights into how indigenous populations utilized medicinal plants. Among these, the malinalli stands out as the most revered.
Just a short distance from the museum lies the Augustine Convent of Malinalco, established in 1543. This convent houses a wealth of 16th-century art, created by local indigenous artisans.
You will then have some leisure time to explore the surrounding area and perhaps enjoy a light snack if you desire.
Finally, we will make our way back to Mexico City, concluding our excursion with a return to our original meeting point after approximately 13 hours.
