Explore Pazo do Faramello
At your selected time, we will gather in the parking area of Pazo do Faramello, adjacent to the Xardin do Recordo. Once we are all assembled, we will embark on a journey to unveil the marvels of this exquisite pazo, a classic Galician civil palace.
This magnificent structure stands above the Tinto River canyon, a tributary of the Sar River, and dates back to the early 18th century, showcasing the elegant baroque architecture typical of Santiago de Compostela.
To start, we will explore the chapel of Pazo do Faramello. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, this oratory boasts a remarkable altarpiece crafted by the prominent baroque artist José Gambino. Following our visit here, we will wander through the pazo's delightful 19th-century French gardens. In this serene space, you will encounter an ancient cruceiro (calvary), the remnants of the Real Fábrica de Papel enveloped in foliage, and several historical industrial mills.
As we meander through the surrounding forests of cherry and chestnut trees, you may be intrigued to know that some paths traversing these woods are part of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James). Our route will include a charming wooden bridge, along with a delightful path lined with hydrangeas and camellias.
Next, we will discover three notable features of the pazo: the captivating baroque terrace of Compostela, the waterway of the Real Fábrica de Papel do Faramello, and an 18th-century dam nestled within a striking Celtic landscape. Our journey will culminate with a visit to the Adega da Arte, a historic winery now serving as a shop and art exhibition space.
After approximately an hour and 20 minutes of exploration, we will wrap up our tour of Pazo do Faramello with a delightful glass of wine and a sampling of local specialties including chocolate, honey, and preserves!
