Immerse yourself in the culture of this region of Mexico, visiting the frozen waterfalls of Hierve el Agua, a unique natural sight. You'll also visit Teotitlán del Valle, home to Mexico's textile tradition.

Description

After pickup from your hotel, we will head southeast from Oaxaca to one of the most impressive sights in all of Mexico: the frozen waterfalls of Hierve el Agua. Located in the town of San Isidro de Roaguía, you will experience stunning views from these two natural falls, one reaching a height of 100 feet (30 meters) and the other 40 feet (12 meters).

This natural wonder, surrounded by lush vegetation, formed over 2,500 years ago from the saturation of calcium carbonate in the water cascading down the cliffs. Considered a sacred place by the Zapotec people, the rock dissolved within the water deposited, resulting in a spectacular 'frozen' appearance.

During the visit, you will have the opportunity to bathe in the natural pools above the falls and admire the breathtaking landscapes of the Madre del Sur mountain range.

Your journey will then continue to discover how mezcal, the typical drink of the state, is produced. The region boasts 120 of the 210 varieties of agave, or maguey, existing worldwide. You will observe how this plant is used for mezcal production, with the chance to taste different varieties made in the area.

Feeling hungry? You will have 1 hour of free time to eat at Palenque Mezcal. After lunch, we will head north to Teotitlán del Valle, an area vibrant with colors, renowned for the beauty of its textiles. Located just half an hour from Oaxaca, this town preserves many traditional Zapotec customs, allowing you to witness the traditional production of wool products, including bags, blankets, and clothing. These items are decorated with traditional dyes and showcase a blend of Zapotec design with contemporary influences.

After exploring Teotitlán del Valle, we will begin our return journey to Oaxaca, with the tour concluding at your hotel around 6 pm.

Pickup

During Easter, July, Halloween, and Christmas, alternative pickup points will be arranged based on your location to manage traffic congestion. The local provider will contact you to provide the exact pickup point:
