Description

Ship models, sculptures, paintings, weapons... With this ticket to the National Maritime Museum of Paris, you'll learn about France's fascinating naval history.

National Maritime Museum

The National Maritime Museum of Paris is located in the Palais de Chaillot on the Place du Trocadéro, one of the best spots in the 16th district to admire the Eiffel Tower.

With this ticket, you can explore the different rooms of the permanent exhibition at your own pace. Its collection brings together an extraordinary display of navigational instruments, ancient maps, and compasses, as well as ship models, sculptures, paintings, and other objects.

Among the main models at the Paris headquarters of the National Maritime Museum are those of the Royal Louis, an important ship from the mid-18th century. Don't miss the scale reproductions of the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier and the model of a voyaging canoe from the island of Satawal in the Pacific Ocean. This model is part of a unique collection created by Admiral Pâris, one of the fathers of nautical ethnography.

Another of the most important pieces in the permanent exhibition is the stern decoration of the galley Réale. The centerpiece of this work is King Louis XIV, depicted as Apollo surrounded by numerous fleurs-de-lis alongside the arms of France.

The museum also houses a valuable collection of paintings. The most notable works include L'Intérieur du Port de Marseille by Joseph Vernet, Le Havre, voiliers à quai by Eugène Boudin, and Incendie du Kent, 1825 by Théodore Gudin.

The visit lasts between 1.5 hours and 2 hours, although you can stay in the museum for as long as you like.
