Our journey will lead us to Café Majestic, where Rowling frequented to pen her first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. From this historic café, we will continue to São Bento station, renowned for its stunning azulejos that adorn the platforms. You may be surprised to learn that this location had a hand in inspiring Platform 9¾.
Next, we will admire the Clérigos Tower, a landmark that may have sparked the imagery of the Astronomy Tower at Hogwarts in Rowling's mind.
We will pause at the Palace of Justice to discuss the intriguing life of António de Oliveira Salazar. Could this historical figure have contributed to the conception of Slytherin and its notorious founder? Various theories abound on this topic.
En route, we will also visit the Fountain of Lions, notable for its resemblance to the Gryffindor crest, and explore the Casa Escondida (Twin Churches), where we will contemplate 12 Grimmauld Place.
Our next destination will be the University of Porto, home to 7 symbols of Portuguese culture—a number coincidentally mirroring that of Voldemort's Horcruxes!
No exploration of Rowling's influence in Porto would be complete without a visit to the famed Livraria Lello, known for its literary significance and ties to the wizarding realm. As we admire its breathtaking architecture, we'll discuss the myths surrounding this enchanting bookstore.
