Description

Embark on a journey to Sigtuna, renowned as Sweden's oldest town, where you'll delve into its Viking heritage, explore church remnants, and visit the historic Wenngarn Palace on this insightful excursion from Stockholm.

Description

Experience the captivating atmosphere of Sigtuna, a town steeped in history, highlighted by its well-preserved Viking street layout complemented by charming 18th-century buildings. Begin your exploration at the Sigtuna Museum, where the fascinating Viking and Medieval history comes to life, marking the heart of Sweden's royal and religious past.

Often described as "the birthplace of Sweden", our knowledgeable guide will lead you to discover picturesque church ruins and captivating Viking runestones. Stroll along the tranquil banks of Lake Mälaren, where these ancient inscriptions reveal stories from the Viking era and the remnants showcase a glimpse into Christian life after the Viking age.

As we venture onward, we will visit the 17th-century Wenngarn Palace, once home to Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie, Sweden's most affluent and pivotal noble. Our guide will narrate the rich history within the palace's beautifully preserved Baroque architecture, adorned with remarkable 17th-century artworks that illustrate the lives of Swedish nobility and the surrounding agrarian community during the 18th and 19th centuries.

In close proximity to Wenngarn Palace lies Viby, a quaint farm that has remained unchanged since the 1700s—an extraordinary glimpse into the past, owing to significant agricultural transformations in Sweden. Together, we'll traverse this picturesque landscape, featuring iconic red wooden buildings, while uncovering insights into Swedish rural life from centuries past.

After five enriching hours steeped in history, we will conclude our tour with a return to your hotel.
