Tokyo Ghibli Tour
Description
Step into the enchanting realm of Studio Ghibli with this captivating tour that whisks you away to three extraordinary sites in Tokyo. Experience the architectural wonders that inspired iconic films like Spirited Away, savor a delicious buffet lunch at a historic hotel, and delve into the whimsical Ghibli Museum. Prepare to be amazed!
Tour Overview
We'll gather at the Keio Plaza Hotel in central Shinjuku at the designated time. From this meeting point, our adventure into the Studio Ghibli universe will commence as we visit notable locations around Tokyo that influenced their beloved films.
The initial destination is the Hotel Gajoen Tokyo, an exquisite traditional Japanese structure said to have inspired the spa design depicted in Spirited Away. Here, a delightful buffet lunch will be waiting for us in its elegant dining area.
Once we've finished our meal, we will proceed to the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, located about an hour away. This intriguing venue showcases traditional buildings that evoke the charm of many settings featured in Ghibli films. Do you remember the main street from Spirited Away? You’re bound to recognize it among these historic houses and shops! We will spend around 2 hours and 15 minutes exploring this unique open-air museum.
As the finale of our tour, we'll visit the Ghibli Museum, an essential stop in Tokyo for fans of the studio. Here, you'll have 2.5 hours for self-guided exploration, where you can admire original artwork, learn about the animation techniques, and view a special short film available exclusively at the museum.
After concluding this final visit, we will regroup to return to the Shinjuku station area. Our farewell will take place after a memorable experience spanning between 8 and 8 hours and 45 minutes.
Partial Museum Closures
Occasionally, the Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum might be unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, we will instead visit Jindai-ji Temple or Takahata Fudoson Temple.
