San Nicolás Church Entrance
The San Nicolás Church stands as a significant landmark in Valencia. Established over 700 years ago on the remnants of a Roman temple, it was bestowed by King Jaime I of Aragon to the Dominican friars, who devoted it to Saint Nicholas, the Bishop.
This site presents a remarkable blend of Gothic framework and Baroque details. The transformation from Gothic to Baroque design occurred predominantly during the 17th and 18th centuries, enhancing the architectural features: the arches and ceilings were softened, adorned with frescoes illustrating the lives of Saint Nicholas and Saint Peter the Martyr.
The stunning and impressive fresco cycle on the ceiling has drawn comparisons between this site and the Vatican's Sistine Chapel. Recent restoration efforts have greatly enhanced the appeal of these vibrant artworks for all visitors.
By obtaining this ticket, along with the included audio guide, you will delve into the rich narrative of the Valencian Sistine Chapel and unveil the miraculous events associated with it.
