Jozani Village Visit
Description
Are you familiar with the traditions and cultures of Zanzibar? On this Jozani tour, explore the island's rich heritage by engaging with a traditional healer, attending a handicraft workshop, and savoring a Swahili lunch crafted with local flavors.
Tour Overview
Prepare to immerse yourself in the cultural essence of Zanzibar. This mesmerizing Tanzanian island is home to unique customs that we will unravel throughout the tour, starting with a pickup from your hotel at the designated time.
Our journey will commence in the Jozani region. We’ll bypass its well-known protected forest but will delve into various aspects of the local culture. Our initial stop will be at the Pangoni Caves, where captivating legends from the history of Zanzibar are shared.
Following this, we will arrive at a traditional village in Jozani. Here, the mganga, or village healer, will welcome us and share insights into his ancestral knowledge and practices that have been carefully preserved through the ages. He will also introduce us to some traditional healing techniques integral to Zanzibar's cultural fabric.
Afterward, we will stroll through the village, gaining insight into the everyday lives of its inhabitants. Additionally, we’ll participate in a handicraft workshop led by local artisans to learn the art of creating various hand-made items.
As we conclude the workshop, we’ll proceed to a local farm showcasing the hallmark products of Zanzibar's tropical agriculture. This visit is sure to inspire your taste buds, so we will head back to the village for a typical Swahili meal. The menu features pilau (spicy rice with vegetables), fish, aubergines, fresh juice, and mineral water.
Post-lunch, enjoy a canoe ride through mangroves that envelop the village. After approximately 30 minutes on the water, we will continue with a brief ride in an ox cart around the scenic areas nearby.
Ultimately, we will return to your hotel, aiming to complete the experience around 8 hours after departure.
