Bogotá Wayuu Backpack Workshop
Descripción
In the Wayuu Backpack Workshop in Bogotá, participants will explore the cultural significance of this iconic item within Colombian heritage. This experience allows you to create your personalized bag and take a unique souvenir home.
Workshop Details
Our gathering begins at the appointed hour in Gabriel García Márquez Journalists’ Park, where we will embark on a stroll towards the historic center of Bogotá. During our walk, a stop will be made at a local café to enjoy a traditional drink. While sipping our beverages, we will delve into discussions about the various indigenous communities from Northern Colombia and uncover the symbolic role of the Wayuu backpack in Colombian culture.
Continuing our journey, we will arrive at the workshop of a Wayuu artisan from La Guajira, located in the northern region of South America. She will demonstrate the weaving techniques and designs employed to craft a backpack using a crochet method introduced to Colombia by Spanish conquistadors. This entirely Colombian product supports many indigenous families through its commercialization.
With guidance from the artisan, you will craft your own miniature backpack, engaging in a tradition that can be traced back to the legend of Wale' Kerü, the spider who weaves.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be presented with a souvenir backpack adorned with authentic Wayuu designs. After approximately 4 hours, we will part ways, cherishing the skills acquired during this creative journey.
