WW2 & Communism Historical Free Tour
Descripción
Delve into the rich history of Slovakia, including the nation's role in the Holocaust and its time as a Socialist Republic, through this engaging walking tour in Bratislava. This exploration focuses on 20th-century events, offering a profound understanding of the consequences of World War II and the legacy of Slovakian communism.
Description
Embark on a two-and-a-half-hour walking journey highlighting the key moments that shaped Bratislava's character. Listen to compelling stories about the Second World War, the National Uprising, the Iron Curtain, the struggles of communism, and the vibrant history of this city.
We will convene at Franciscan Square, known as the beating heart of Slovakia's capital. Our path will lead us to the Square of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP), located at the edge of the Old Town. This expansive square has been a crucial site for the independence movement, witnessing numerous transformative historical events.
As we continue, we will stop in front of the last synagogue in Bratislava, a powerful symbol of resilience. This site invites reflection on the Holocaust trials and persecutions faced by the Jewish community during this challenging time.
Next, we will view the "inverted pyramid," a nickname for the distinctive radio building. Its unique design, emblematic of the Czechoslovak socialist era, stands out prominently from the street.
Our route will take us through Liberty Square, where we will pause to admire the Grassalkovich Palace, the official residence of the President. No visit would be complete without a glimpse of the UFO Tower, a striking structure that resembles a UFO and is a key feature of the world's seventh-longest suspension bridge.
