Jewish Quarter Free Tour
Descripción
Embark on a journey to uncover the stories and resilience of World War II heroes during this Free Tour of the Jewish Quarter in Hungary's vibrant capital. Delve into one of Budapest's essential neighborhoods and immerse yourself in its rich historical tapestry.
Jewish Quarter Free Tour
The experience will commence at the designated meeting point, Mádach imre Tér in Budapest, where we will set off to explore the city’s Jewish quarter.
A highlight of the tour will be the exterior of the stunning 19th-century Great Synagogue, where we will take in the intricate architectural details that showcase a synthesis of Byzantine, Romanesque, and Gothic influences. Historically, this area tragically became a site for a concentration camp during the Second World War. Our journey will then lead us to the solemn Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust Memorial Park, established to remember the victims of the Holocaust.
As we proceed, we will visit the Carl Lutz Memorial, commemorating the remarkable efforts of Carl Lutz, who facilitated the escape of hundreds of Jews from Budapest, marking one of the largest rescue missions in the conflict. This tribute serves as a reminder of the Swiss diplomat's crucial role.
The tour will also include a visit to a mural honoring the Spaniard Angel Sanz Briz. Created by the artist Okuda, this artwork pays tribute to the diplomat who saved 5,000 lives by providing them with Spanish passports.
Following this, we will head to the Status Quo Synagogue, where we will gather insights into its history. This unique place of worship, reflecting Mozarabic and Islamic architectural styles, was crafted by the esteemed architect Otto Wagner. Our next stop will be a building located on Király Street, where we will observe the last remnants of the Budapest ghetto nestled within its courtyard.
To wrap up the tour, we will pause in front of the renowned Budapest Opera House, exploring its significance over the years while admiring the breathtaking facade.
In conclusion, the Jewish Quarter tour will finish at the entrance of the Opera House.
