Machu Picchu & Machu Picchu Mountain Day Trip

Machu Picchu stands as one of the most remarkable destinations globally: explore the remnants of the Lost City of the Incas and scale Machu Picchu Mountain on this journey departing from Cusco.

Tour Overview

Your adventure will commence between 4:00 am and 4:30 am when we collect you from your hotel in Cusco , and head towards the Ollantaytambo station. The train will depart at 5:40 am, transporting you to Machu Picchu.

The ensuing train ride, lasting an hour and a half, will be an extraordinary beginning to our expedition, as it ranks among the most breathtaking rail journeys worldwide. You will traverse Andean landscapes of astonishing beauty  while enjoying the vistas illuminated through the glass ceiling.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, the quaint town nestled at the base of Machu Picchu, you will board a bus that takes you up to the archaeological marvel itself. A local guide will lead you to the entry point for Machu Picchu Mountain, a peak soaring over 3000 meters. You will have the opportunity to climb up to 300 meters independently to enjoy stunning views of the ancient Inca citadel. A camera will undoubtedly come in handy!

After the mountain ascent, we will regroup for a guided exploration of the Machu Picchu ruins. Over two and a half hours, we will trace the steps of the Incas and delve into various sites in this ancient metropolis, including the House of the Guardians, the tallest structure in Machu Picchu.

Concluding our visit, we'll take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you can enjoy some free time to dine at one of the local eateries or explore the town's vibrant handicraft market.

After your scenic train journey back, you will be returned to your hotel in Cusco  by around 9:00 pm.

Scenic Train Journey

The travel to Machu Picchu will be conducted via a sightseeing train (Expedition or Voyager trains).

Pickup Information

Pickup will occur between 4:00 am and 4:30 am from hotels located in the historical center of Cusco. If your hotel is outside this area, we will convene at the entrance of the Cathedral in Plaza de Armas.

Train Stations & Duration

Trains to and from Cusco operate from either Poroy station (30 minutes from Cusco) or Ollantaytambo station (1 hour and 30 minutes from Cusco), contingent on availability. During the rainy season (December to March), the Poroy station is closed, necessitating a bus trip to Ollantaytambo. An email will be sent to you upon confirming your booking, detailing the pickup time and train departure station.

The duration of the transfers varies, depending on the chosen station. The travel time between Poroy and Aguas Calientes is approximately 4 hours, while the route from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes is about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Additional Information

If the tour is disrupted due to strikes or adverse weather, an alternative date will be offered. If rescheduling is not feasible, a full refund will be issued minus the Machu Picchu admission fees (approximately 200 PEN), which are nonrefundable.
