Begin your adventure in Putre with a 3-day exploration of the stunning Lauca National Park, a gem of protected natural beauty in northern Chile.

Lauca 3-day Adventure

Day 1

At the agreed time, you will be collected from your accommodation in Putre and taken to the caves situated just outside the town. Following a brief walk around these formations, we will head to the Chucuyo viewpoint, where breathtaking views of Lauca National Park can be enjoyed, showcasing its lagoons and striking volcanoes across the Andean highlands of northern Chile.

Our next destination will be the town of Parinacota, where a visit to its historical church, recognized as a National Monument, awaits. Close by, we will explore the renowned Cotacotani Lagoons from one of its vantage points and also catch a glimpse of Chungará Lake.

We will then proceed to the Chirigualla hot springs and travel to Chivatambo to gain insights into the charqui process, which involves meat dehydration. In the evening, enjoy dinner and overnight accommodations in a rural residence in the village.

Day 2

Following breakfast, our journey continues to the vicuña reserve, located to the south of Lauca. We will pass the Lauca River and the Surire Salt Flats, one of the significant sources of sodium chloride in northern Chile.

Subsequently, we will observe the flamingos residing at the base of Chinchilleni hill and take in the scenic views of Chilcaya. A visit to the Polloquere hot springs, located by the salt flats, will follow.

A break for a picnic lunch will be taken in the afternoon, after which we will explore the ancient altiplano settlement known as Guallatire. The day ends with our arrival at a rural lodge in Socoroma for the night.

Day 3

After a robust breakfast, a morning filled with trekking along the Inca Trail and Phusiri Collo will commence. These trails lead us to Zapahuira, where we will discover its ancient Inca structures, identified as tambos and colcas.

The pathway will then proceed to Copaquilla and Mallku, where we’ll delve into the traditions of the local communities. After this cultural immersion, we will continue our journey to the Cardones Ravine, famed for its distinctive candelabro cactus.

Finally, we will witness the migratory birds inhabiting the Lluta wetland and return to your hotel in Putre in the late afternoon.

Accommodation & Meals

Accommodation will be provided in shared rooms within rural houses, and both dinner and breakfast are included. Please note that the locations of the lodging may vary based on availability and weather conditions.

Lunches are also included, offering a picnic style meal during one of the midday breaks throughout the tours.
