At the agreed time, a witch in full attire will greet you by the Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate sign, known as the shortest street in York with the longest name. This is where your haunting witch tour begins—brace yourself for an exciting experience!

Your journey will kick off by strolling through The Shambles, the most renowned area in York, leading us toward Cathedral Quarter, Petergate, and Stonegate. As dusk approaches, captivating accounts of women throughout history who were accused of witchcraft in Yorkshire will be shared.

The tour will then delve into the murky past of Mary Bateman: was she truly a killer? We will unwrap the details surrounding figures like Mad Alice. Was she a victim of circumstance, or was it destiny that pushed her to madness? Reflect on this during our journey back in time.

Our next destination is St. Crux Church, which once stood as the largest medieval sanctuary in the city. From there, we'll make our way to King's Square and Bookbinders Alley, exploring the legend of a mystical tree intertwined with a witch’s magical incantations...

Continuing on, we'll reach the historic Minster Quarter, York's oldest district. We will pause near the pub that hosted a notorious conspirator, before admiring the impressive facade of York Minster, acclaimed as one of the most breathtaking cathedrals globally. The architectural wonder is sure to leave you in awe!

As our adventure comes to a close, we'll cross Stonegate to reveal even more dark secrets. Look closely for a tiny “red devil,” and we will point out a building that kept its stories hidden for many years.
