Linlithgow Day Trip by Train

Join us on a day trip to Linlithgow by train from Edinburgh, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. Experience the historic charm of this Scottish city, where we will visit her palace and explore the old town.

Day Trip Details

At the designated meeting time, we will convene in front of the Equestrian Statue of the Duke of Wellington. From there, we will walk to Edinburgh Waverly Station to board a train that will take us to Linlithgow. This is your chance to explore one of Scotland's most historical locations!

After a brief journey of just half an hour, we'll arrive in Linlithgow, the birthplace of Mary Stuart. To delve into the town’s rich heritage, we will begin with a visit to Linlithgow Palace.

We will enter this remarkable castle where Mary Stuart was born and spent her early years. During our visit, we will explore the various rooms of the palace, which served as a residence for Scottish kings in the 15th and 16th centuries and suffered a devastating fire in 1746. Notably, this fortress was also featured in Outlander as Wentworth Prison.

Following our palace tour, we will walk along the loch, one of Linlithgow's charming spots. Our stroll will lead us to St. Michael's Church, renowned for its architectural beauty and religious significance.

After this, you will have 20 minutes of free time for lunch. Once reenergized, we’ll stroll through the historic centre of Linlithgow, where the numerous curiosities and legends of this quaint village await discovery!

Finally, we will make our way back to the train station for our return trip to Edinburgh, concluding the tour at Waverly Station approximately 5.5 hours after our start.
