Guided Walking Tour of Fortaleza

Our meeting point is set for 9:30 am at the Central Market, where we will embark on a journey through the historic heart of Fortaleza, uncovering the unique allure of this city in Ceará.

The first landmark on our route will be the Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, a Dutch fortress established in 1649, marking the city's development. Following this, we will visit Praça da Sé, home to the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Joseph, a majestic temple whose construction spanned from 1746 to 1978!

Next, we’ll wander through Travessa Crato, a street that brims with tradition and local craftsmanship. Here, shopkeepers warmly invite visitors to explore their unique offerings, showcasing beautiful artisan creations. We’ll then meander through the Art-Deco district and visit the Centro Cultural Banco do Nordeste, where we will delve deeper into the city's compelling history and cultural scene.

The exploration continues as we reach Praça dos Leões, established in 1730 alongside the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário. Our route will also take us past the Museu do Ceará and Praça do Ferreira, before arriving at Estação das Artes, a vast complex of 67,000 square meters that was once the site of the former train station.

Our journey will then lead us to the Tourism Center, a venue dedicated to showcasing artisan works, accompanied by fascinating stories about its architectural history. You’ll have the chance to admire and appreciate the creativity of the local artisans.

Our final stop will be Praça dos Mártires, commonly referred to as the Passeio Público de Fortaleza, which features breathtaking sea views. Here, you'll encounter the impressive centennial baobab tree planted by Senator Pompeu in 1910.
