Are you ready to venture into the Peruvian Amazon? Embark on a captivating 2, 3, 4, or 5-day expedition along the Momon River starting from Iquitos. This journey allows you to discover the unique ecosystem and the lives of the indigenous people nestled within the lush rainforest.

Description

Day 1

Begin your adventure in the Peruvian Amazon! We'll meet you at your hotel in Iquitos or at the airport at 9 am, from where we will head to the river port of the city. The adventure sets sail with an extraordinary boat ride on the Amazon, renowned as the world’s largest river.

During this roughly 3-hour excursion, our initial stop will be at a nature reserve to marvel at the magnificent Victoria Regia, the largest ornamental plant of the Amazon. Following this, we will visit an animal sanctuary, where you can see anacondas, boas, toucans, and monkeys.

As we navigate along the Nanay River, we will venture onto the Momon River and arrive at our camp situated by the riverside, where we will spend the night. Upon arrival, you will be served a delightful lunch at the lodge. After resting, a trek through the jungle will take you to meet the Boras tribe.

After a fulfilling day, we will return to the camp for dinner. Later in the evening, we’ll take a brief night hike to spot some of the nocturnal birds inhabiting the Peruvian Amazon before settling down for the night at the lodge.

Day 2

As dawn breaks, we’ll engage in a delightful bird-watching tour. After this, we’ll return to the camp for breakfast before proceeding to navigate the Nanay, Amazon, and Itaya rivers.

During our explorations, we’ll pause to visit a local community and view a towering 70-meter (230-foot) sequoia tree. Following this sight, we will journey upstream on the Momon River back to the campsite for a delicious lunch. Post-lunch, we’ll have an opportunity to try our luck at piranha fishing near the lodge.

To conclude this remarkable day, we’ll take you back to your hotel in Iquitos or the airport for your convenience. We anticipate arriving in the city around 5 pm.

3-Day Tour

If you choose the 3-day option, you’ll follow the initial two days’ itinerary as previously described. The only distinction is that on the evening of the second day, after piranha fishing, we’ll return to the camp for dinner and relaxation.

On the third day, we’ll start with bird-watching at dawn, followed by breakfast at the camp. We will then glide downstream on the Momon River to visit the community of Padrecocha, known for its beautiful butterfly farm.

Around noon, we'll head back to the camp for lunch. Afterward, depending on the weather, we could either go on a kayaking excursion on the Momon River or visit the indigenous community of San Andres.

Subsequently, we’ll return to Iquitos, arriving in the city around 5 pm. You will be taken to your hotel or the airport.

4-Day Tour + Excursion to Belen

This option retains the first three days' itinerary from the prior tour. On the afternoon of the third day, after the kayak session on the Momon River, we will return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

On the fourth day, we’ll have breakfast at the camp before we embark on a journey through the Momon, Nanay, Amazon, and Itaya rivers to Belen, affectionately called the Amazonian Venice.

After navigating the canals of Belen, we’ll journey back down the Momon River to the campsite for lunch. Following our meal, we’ll visit the indigenous community of San Andres. We will then commence our return to the river dock in Iquitos, aiming to reach the city around 5 pm and taking you to your hotel or the airport.

4-Day Tour + Iquitos Tour

Following the prior itinerary, on the fourth day after breakfast at the camp, we will head to the Bellavista port. Upon arrival, we'll embark on a comprehensive sightseeing tour of Iquitos that blends walking and bus exploration.

We will begin at the Plaza de Armas, visiting the Casa de Hierro, designed by Gustave Eiffel. Our tour continues at the Amazon Museum, where we’ll delve into the history of the region’s ethnic groups, concluding with a visit to the floating market in the Belen neighborhood.

As we wrap up our time in Iquitos, we will make our way to the town of Quistococha to visit a conservation center for rescued Amazonian species. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, we will return to Iquitos by approximately 5 pm, where you will be transferred to your accommodations or the airport.

5-Day Tour

This option offers the most extensive experience. The initial three days will replicate the activities outlined in the 3-day tour. The fourth day involves the excursion to Belen, and on the fifth day, we will carry out the Iquitos tour described earlier.

Accommodation

Throughout your stay, your lodging will be at the Amazon Camp Lodge, featuring buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The camp is situated along the banks of the Momon River, providing comfortable rooms outfitted with private bathrooms.

Pricing is based on double occupancy per individual and children under 5 years old can join the tour free of charge when sharing a room with an adult.
