Beginning with a pickup from your accommodation in Palinuro, we will travel by bus to Padula, located in the Salerno province and the site of the remarkable Charterhouse of San Lorenzo, widely recognized as the Certosa di Padula. Are you prepared to delve into this magnificent religious site?

Upon our arrival at the monastery, which achieved status as a World Heritage Site in 1998, we will first admire its striking Baroque exterior. As we step inside, a guide will elucidate the principles of the Carthusian order and their impact on the charterhouse’s architectural design.

We will wander through tranquil areas dedicated to contemplation, such as the chapels and the church, where the vibrant altar decorations and stunning 16th-century choirs await your discovery. Additionally, we will visit work spaces including the laundries, expansive kitchen, and library found within the beloved Reggia del Silenzio (Palace of Silence). Prepare to be amazed by the spiral marble staircase leading to this area!

Throughout this exploration, we will also see the renowned cloisters of the Padula Charterhouse, highlighting the Great Cloister, which dates back to the late 18th century. Its name may not be particularly creative, but it accurately reflects its grandeur: covering 15,000 square meters and featuring a portico with 84 arches, it stands as one of the largest cloisters worldwide!
