Tour Overview

Your adventure begins in Santander as we journey towards Santillana del Mar, the home of the renowned Altamira cave. Recognized as one of the most significant Palaeolithic sites globally, only a limited number of visitors—five weekly—are permitted entry to ensure the cave’s protection.

Our first stop will be the Altamira National Museum and Research Centre, where a lifelike replica of the caves awaits. Here, you can admire the intricate cave paintings and delve into the fascinating story of the cave's discovery in 1868.

Next, we will embark on a guided exploration of Santillana del Mar, an enchanting medieval town humorously referred to as "the town of three lies." Contrary to the implication of its name in Spanish, it is neither sacred (santo), lacks flatlands (llana), nor is it by the sea (mar).

The tour will take us through Plaza Mayor, as we wander along the town's cobbled pathways, eventually arriving at the collegiate church of Santa Juliana. Following this, you’ll have an hour of free time to enjoy Santillana del Mar at your own pace, taking in the stunning medieval architecture within its historic centre.

Upon concluding the tour, we will return to the original pickup location in Santander.

• Day trip from Santander hotels: This option allows for pickup from hotels situated in central Santander. If your accommodation is located outside the center, please proceed to Calle Castelar 29.
• Day trip from Torrelavega hotels: This choice encompasses pickup from all hotels within Torrelavega.
