Akrotiri Archeological Site Tickets
Descripción
With this access to the Akrotiri archaeological site, you will be immersed in the world of the Minoan civilization and uncover the mysteries of a city that has stood for over 3000 years. The experience is both enlightening and enchanting!
Reasons to Explore Akrotiri
Located in the southern part of the island of Santorini, Akrotiri is recognized as one of the most significant prehistoric settlements in Europe and is renowned for its well-preserved archaeological layout. This ancient urban center was populated prior to the catastrophic volcanic eruption that occurred around 1600 B.C..
This historical event allows Akrotiri to be referred to as the "Minoan Pompeii," as it was uncovered almost untouched under volcanic ash in 1866. However, systematic archaeological excavations commenced only in 1967. Since then, a wealth of findings, including artifacts, tools, and intricate structures, has been revealed.
Some structures were designed with up to three stories, showcasing the layout and division of public areas within this ancient metropolis. As you navigate through Akrotiri, you will encounter characteristic sanctuaries of the Minoan civilization along with a selection of beautiful frescoes that will undoubtedly leave you in awe!
