Koh Ker Temples Day Trip
Descripción
Visit one of Cambodia's largest ancient temple complexes. Your tour guide will reveal the hidden secrets of the crumbling shrines as you explore the overgrown jungle around Koh Ker and Beng Mealea.
Koh Ker Temples Day Trip Itinerary
After being picked up from your hotel in Siem Reap between 7:40 am and 8:10 am, you'll head out of the city to the northeast by bus. The journey will take you deep into one of the most important archaeological parks of this South East Asian country.
Following an approximately 56 mile (90 km) drive, you'll arrive at the former capital of the Khmer empire: Koh Ker. The second largest temple complex in Cambodia, this massive archaeological site extends over 50 square miles (80 sq m) and is home to more than 180 temples, only a handful of which are accessible to visitors amongst the dense jungle that has taken over the ancient city.
Of these stunning 10th century temples, one of the most fascinating is Prasat Prang, an immense seven-tiered pyramid, reaching a width of 203 feet (62 m) and a height of 118 feet (36 m). You'll also have the opportunity to visit Prasat Thom, Prasat Krahom, and Prasat Krachap, hidden amongst overgrown tropical trees and little visited by tourists.
Next, we'll head to one of Cambodia's most mysterious places: Beng Mealea Temple. The history of this Hindu sanctuary has been lost in time, much like its crumbling walls under the roots and branches of the surrounding trees. Access the ancient ruins via a wooden walkway and admire what is left of the exquisite stone carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.
Once you've explored the magnificent temple ruins to your heart's content, you'll head to a local restaurant, where you'll enjoy a delicious meal and a well-earned rest. At the end of your day trip, you'll return to your hotel in Siem Reap for around 7 pm.
