Trip Details

At the scheduled time, you'll be picked up from your accommodation and transported to the local port in Dakar. Awaiting us there is a ferry that will take us to the enchanting Goree Island.

Upon arrival, we will delve into the island's significance, which has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, focusing on its crucial involvement in the Atlantic slave trade. Our first destination will be the House of Slaves, a location that historically served as both a prison and a marketplace for enslaved individuals during this harrowing period.

Following this, we'll meander through the vibrant, winding streets adorned with charming colonial architecture. We’ll visit the notable fort, providing breathtaking views of the coastline. Afterwards, we’ll return to the ferry for our journey back to Dakar. Once we arrive at the city port, a bus will be ready to transfer us to Lac Rose (Pink Lake). This scenic area is renowned for being the final leg of the Paris-Dakar Rally, up until 2008.

We'll embark on a tour of the lake's stunning landscape in a 4x4 vehicle. Besides gazing at the striking pink waters of Lac Rose, you will also marvel at the stunning sand dunes that form a natural barrier between the lake and the Atlantic Ocean.

Before we return to Saly, we'll have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake. The high salt concentration allows for a unique experience where you'll find floating effortlessly on the surface.

The tour will culminate approximately 10.5 hours later, returning you to the original meeting point.

Bathing in Lac Rose

Swimming in Lac Rose will only be possible if time permits during our itinerary. You will have a 15-minute window to relish the unique salty, pink waters.

Please Note

Following substantial rainfall in the summer of 2024, the lake has accumulated a significant amount of water, causing it to lose its distinctive color. Although salt extraction activities and excursions have resumed, the lake has not regained its pink hue, and it remains uncertain when it will do so again.
